When planning your trek in Nepal, choosing the best season is key to ensuring a rewarding experience. Nepal’s diverse geography offers varying climates, so understanding the optimal trekking seasons can enhance your adventure. The spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months are particularly favored for their clear skies, stable weather, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas. While summer and winter have their own charm, these seasons present more challenges, including monsoonal rains and colder conditions. This guide offers a month-by-month breakdown to help you select the ideal time for your trek.

Kathmandu and surrounding areas

As of October 2022, the admission fees for each location are as follows (per foreign adult):

  • Swayambhunath 200 rupees
  • Boudhanath 400 rupees
  • Pashupatinath 1,000 rupees
  • Patan Old Palace Square 1,000 rupees
  • Temples around Patan (Golden Temple, Mahaboudha Temple, etc.) Approximately 50 rupees each
  • Bhaktapur Old Royal Square 1,500 rupees
  • Kathmandu Old Royal Square 1,000 rupees
  • Changu Narayan Temple 350 rupees
  • Nagarkot (toll): 340 rupees (uncollected as of October 2022)
  • Chandragiri Cable Car round trip fare: US$22
